135. Do You Have an Exit Strategy?

Do you ever start something with an exit plan? Most people focus on building a business without ever thinking about how they will get out if they outgrow it or want to step into something new.

When you’re in the early stages of building a business, asking yourself the question about what exiting it looks like will help you define why you are in business in the first place, and what you need to do to create a container for your business that allows you to step away once you’ve outgrown it.

As we close out the year, it’s a good time to think about what we want to leave behind, what we want to carry forward, and what we want to focus on in the new year. If you are sitting in something that you’ve built that does not fill you up any more, you need to ask yourself how you can move on gracefully.

Why You Need to Create an Exit Plan

  • Whether you’re in the middle of a project or business or just starting out, it’s important to think about how you are going to eventually transition out of it.
  • Considering the end of a project will help you clarify the intention and purpose of it.
  • We are all growing and evolving, and one day you will outgrow what you are working on today. Don’t let yourself get stuck.
  • You need to know what you are going to do once you fulfill your vision.
